Being “ADDITIVE-FREE” is Very Important!
Understanding what ADDITIVES are and why they ARE BAD
Some additives are used as binding agents which are “glue-like” substances used to form powdered ingredients into tablets. Other additives are used as flowing agents and lubricants which are used to assist “the flow” of the raw ingredients through the actual manufacturing process. There are other additives that are fillers which possess a “fluffy” quality to help make capsules look uniformly more full. Some other common additives are coloring agents, coatings and glazes which are used to make the finished product visually more appealing.
Being “Additive-Free” means you do NOT
USE any of these agents or additives at any point during the process of manufacturing the product.
Additives have little to NO NUTRITIONAL VALUE
The objective of taking a dietary supplement is for the herbs or nutrients to breakdown and be utilized by our bodies. Additives do not generally facilitate this process. In fact, some studies show that additives may actually hinder this process.*
The best nutritional supplements promote the quick uptake by the body of the nutrients they possess. They do this by being in a form that the body can easily assimilate so it can access the herb or nutrient and expose it to processes that will ultimately lead to the nutrient taking part in cellular metabolism.*
In addition, some people are sensitive and may react allergically to certain additives. The most concerning fact regarding additives is that some have been shown in preliminary in vitro studies to cause possible harmful effects.
How does Rainforest Nutrition ensure all its formulas are Additive-Free?
Rainforest Nutrition™ products are produced in our own cGMP-Certified Facility in Carson, California where we can control and protect our products from start to finish.
Rainforest Nutrition™ also has its own “in-house” laboratory where all raw ingredients are tested including testing finished goods for any microbial or pathogenic contamination as well as for lead.
Common additives OTHER companies use in manufacturing are:
Magnesium Stearate: A lubricant typically used in the manufacturing of capsules and tablets. There is research indicating that stearic acid and magnesium stearate both possess “T-Cell Inhibiting” characteristics and other adverse effects. Please note that some companies state “vegetable lubricant” on their labels, but this is actually magnesium stearate.1
Silicon Dioxide: A flowing agent typically used in the manufacturing of capsules and tablets.
Croscarmellose Sodium: A disintegrating agent typically used in the manufacturing of tablets so that they effectively break down in the stomach.
Microcrystalline Cellulose: A cellulose-based filler typically used in the manufacturing of capsules and tablets. This material is typically bleached and refined.
Stearic Acid: A Binder typically used in the manufacturing of tablets. This ingredient is not typically used in the manufacturing of capsules.
Rice Flour: A filler typically used in the manufacturing of capsules. This material is typically bleached and refined. It is most often used because it is much cheaper than brown rice flour and most companies want a filler that is white.
